Being between 34-38 weeks is recommended for the clearest pictures. Earlier than this there’s a high chance that
an anterior placenta or baby’s hands and feet will obscure their face, but will still provide a precious bonding
experience.

Scan type explanation


FirstView Evolution

2D Traditional

A traditional 2D scan. These scans are in black and white, and are standard within the medical industry. These scans use a single-plane beam to represent a bi-section of the baby.

3D/4D

A scan that displays a 3D image of the baby. The term “3D” is used because all three axes are used to create an image, rather than a bi-section used in traditional 2D imagery.
These scans are commonly referred to as “4D” when the images are generated live in a video format, the fourth dimension being “time”.

3D/4D TrueVue

A scan performed using Philips TrueVue software. This is similar to a “3D/4D” scan, but the imagery is significantly clearer and contains highlighting and shadows, leading to more realistic-looking image.
Some refer to this scan type as “5D” due to the addition of shadows using a virtual light source, and colour improvements.

Edited 3D/4D TrueVue

A scan performed using Philips TrueVue software, where we remove any obscuring structures from your baby to get the best possible images.
We use software to remove placenta, umbilical cord and even fingers and toes that may obscure their precious little faces.
